Congdon, Sr., a resident of Tower for the past twenty five years, died at his home here last Monday night. Mr. Congdon had been complaining of ill health for several weeks but it was not until a few days previous to his death that his condition was considered serious. He was afflicted with dropsy and this, coupled with old age and a general breaking down of the system, was the cause of his death. Deceased was born in Cornwall, England, 76 years ago last August. Shortly after attaining manhood he came to America and located in Michigan. In 1885 he moved with his family to this place and he has resided here continuously since that time, being associated with his son in the hardware and undertaking business. He is survived by a widow, six daughters and a son, all of whom were here to attend the funeral. The children are: Mrs. W. N. Shepherd, of Whitewater, Wis.; Mrs. Ella Hornibrook, of Duluth; Mrs. Amos Shepherd and Mrs. De la Barre, of St. Paul; Mrs. G. E. Harrison, of Hibbing; Mrs. J. E. Robertson and W. H. Congdon, Jr., of this city. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the family residence, the last sad rites being said by Rev. Rollin Dodd, of the Episcopal church. Interment made in Laveview cemetery. |
