Tower weekly news. Vol XXI, No. 6, Page 1 – June 25, 1920 CHARLES HEGLER HAS BACK BROKEN Hurt Yesterday While Unloading heavy Timber at the Soudan Mine Charles Hegler, well known Soudan man, met with an accident yesterday afternoon which, it is feared, will cost him his life. He was engaged with others in unloading a carload of timber at the Soudan mine, and when he cut off a stake which held the logs on the car they started to roll before he could get out of the way. One of the heavy timbers struck the unfortunate man in such a way as to break his back, and he was otherwise bruised and hurt. Dr. Hynes said this morning that there was practically no hope for him. Hegler is married and besides his wife has a baby boy only a few months old. He is an active member of the Loyal Order of Moose and has many friends in the community who extend their sympathy. Tower weekly news. Vol XXI, No. 7, Page 6 – July 2, 1920 Charles Hegler, who had his back broken a week ago yesterday while unloading mining timber at the Soudan mine, is still at the hospital. At the request of Dr. Hynes, Dr. O. W. Parker came here Sunday from Ely and the two subjected Hegler to a thorough examination. Both agreed that the unfortunate man’s back is broken, consequently nothing can be done for him except to administer drugs to relieve the pain as much as possible. ObituaryTower weekly news.
