Snow buries northwoods around Lake Vermilion

NOVEMBER 19, 2016 — The first snowfall of the 2016–17 winter season began in the early hours of Friday, November 18. Although this date is a little behind the average for the first snowfall, winter has made amends for its tardiness with its generosity. Snowfall totals vary widely across the region with recorders from Orr, on Pelican Lake, northwest of Lake Vermilion, reporting an impressive 24.8 inches and recorders in Tower reporting 19 inches. At 11:00 o’clock this morning, after plenty of time to settle, a dense, heavy 12 inches of “the beautiful” were measured on Driscoll Hill in Soudan.
