Photo of the Tower Lumber Company in Tower, Minnesota

Located on Pike Bay, at Mill Point Plat in Tower, the Tower Lumber Company saw mill is depicted in this circa. 1910-1912 photograph. The peak of logging in the Lake Vermilion area occurred around 1900.

During the logging years, spanning 1884 through the 1920s, logs were cut across Lake Vermilion and points north including around Trout, Pine and Oriniack lakes and towed by steam ships across Lake Vermilion in large booms and held in Pike Bay prior to being sawed into lumber and loaded on freight trains bound for midwestern and eastern cities.
